December 19 – “Holiday History: The 12 Days of Christmas”

December 15, 2021 by Fawn Smith

Join Renée as we take one last jaunt into Victorian Era holiday history and grapple with the racist origin of one of the most beloved Christmas carols. And we’ll try to solve the riddle of The Twelve Days of Christmas – what is up with all the bird symbology?

December 12 – “Happy Heretic”

December 7, 2021 by Fawn Smith

Led by Rev. Dr. Steven Gaines. This will be Rev. Steven’s first time preaching since being chosen/announced as UUFF’s next minister (will officially start in early 2022)! This Sunday, he will guide us in a reflection on Unitarian Universalism’s heretical identity, speak from personal experience with heresy in contexts of “orthodoxy,” and encourage us in our own searches for truth and meaning.

November 21 – “UUFF’s Bread Communion Service”

November 17, 2021 by Fawn Smith

Tis the season for our Annual Bread Communion Service! We’ll invite Dr. Sevin Gallo to speak to us about the culture of food. Dr. Gallo is an NWACC professor of World Civilization, and her teachings include an Honors class that focuses on food around the world. Everyone should BYOB (bring your own BREAD), whether you are joining the service remotely or in-person, so that we can enjoy it together during the Bread Communion part of the service!

November 7 – “Once Upon a Time”

November 3, 2021 by Fawn Smith

Rev. Rhett Baird, who served as UUFF’s Minister from 1994 to 2004 and was later given the title of Minister Emeritus, joins us this Sunday via zoom. His visit will be a facilitated interactive engagement, and he will share some carefully selected stories from his life journey and ministry. Stories that some would call holy and sacred and others might call poignant and memorable. We all have such stories stored in our memory. They have helped to shape who we are. They can remind us of our capacity to learn. Some remind us of our resilience and inner strength. Some can inspire us. Some fill us with awe and wonder. Some invite gratitude, forgiveness, and acceptance. All enlarge our world. All seem to be connectional. And they are.

October 12, 2021 by Fawn Smith

Please join us this Sunday, as we host special guest speakers, Dr. Amanda Nell Edgar and Rev. Dr. Andre E. Johnson, co-authors of the book The Struggle over Black Lives Matter and All Lives Matter. The publisher states, “This book ties together online and offline, national and local, and personal and political to understand one of the defining social justice struggles of our time.” Dr. Edgar and Dr. Johnson will speak about their research and its implications for our involvement in society. September 26 – “The 5 Smooth Stones, Part 1”

September 21, 2021 by Fawn Smith

Join Renée Janski in an excursion back to the fascinating roots of UUism as we dive into the 5 Smooth Stones of Liberal Religion as identified by James Luther Adams and what it means to us that “Revelation is ongoing.” Also, the music for the “5 Smooth Stones” sermon series will evolve through the periods. For this first service of the series, we’ll showcase music from the Renaissance period (1400-1600). Brenda will play for us authentic music from the period, and because our hymnals don’t have these styles, we have chosen hymns in Latin for Stephanie to lead, because all church music was in Latin during the Renaissance! And hey – the Protestant Reformation also began during the Renaissance! See where this is going?
