February 28 – “Tightening the Weave of Community: Holding on to each other during these troubled times.”

February 22, 2021 by Fawn Smith

About Melanie DeMore: Melanie is a Grammy nominated singer/composer, choral conductor, music director and vocal activist who believes in the power of voices raised together. In her presentations, DeMore beautifully brings her participants together through her music and commentary. DeMore facilitates vocal and stick pounding workshops for professional choirs, community groups as well as directing numerous choral organizations in the Bay Area. She is a featured presenter of SpeakOut! -The Institute for Social and Cultural Change – and was a founding member of the Grammy nominated ensemble Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir. She became Music Director for Obeah Opera by Nicole Brooks as part of the Luminato Festival in 2019. She is a charter member of Kate Munger’s Threshold Choirs and conducts song circles with an emphasis on the voice as a vessel for healing. In here own words: “A song can hold you up when there seems to be no ground beneath you.” Led by Melanie DeMore!

February 21 – “How Long ‘Til Black Future Month?”

February 17, 2021 by Fawn Smith

black future

With Rev. Jim Parrish. N.K. Jemisin, a black female who happens to be one my favorite sci-fi authors, has written a book of short stories by this name, and it poses a great question. An Op Ed by Stacey Abrams gives us a clue as to when, or if, the future might happen for people of color, for all of us. Join us Sunday to explore what our future might be like. Info/link to join this zoom service can be found in your latest UUFF weekly email (access at uufayetteville.org in the “This Week” section). CLICK HERE to view the Order of Service.

February 14 – Side With Love

February 9, 2021 by Fawn Smith

What if to “side with love” meant making bold, faith-full choices? What if it were even a little bit scary? This worship service brings together worship leaders and musicians from across the country to offer hopeful, moving, challenging reminders about what we, as Unitarian Universalists, are called to do, and BE, in the world. Zoom links/info to join Sunday services and other online offerings can be found in your latest UUFF Weekly email (go to uufayetteville.org and click on “This Week”).

February 7 – “Replacing the Sacred”

February 3, 2021 by Fawn Smith

Led by Rev. Dr. Steven Gaines. Join us this Sunday for an online service about Victoria Woodhull, a nineteenth-century Spiritualist, feminist, and presidential candidate who fought for justice, liberty, and human rights. There’s a lot we can learn from them, including how to embrace what makes you unique and maybe even a little bit “weird.”

January 10 – “Epiphany.”

January 6, 2021 by Fawn Smith

Epiphany is traditionally a Christian holiday, referencing the journey of the wise men to Jesus. This Sunday, Melly talks to us about this story and how it relates to our Unitarian Universalist principle of the responsible search for truth and meaning and finding our own epiphanies.

November 29 – “Growing Closer During Social Distance”

November 25, 2020 by Fawn Smith

hands hearts universe

With special guest, Ginger Doss. 2020 has been a year unlike any other. But within its challenges are great teachings and opportunities. Even though we have had to social distance and isolate ourselves, we can still find comfort and strength through our connections. Nurturing our compassion for one another through mindful practice can build unseen bridges that span across any distance and can nourish us in a time when we might otherwise feel so alone. 2020 is a journey we have taken together, and we can heal together as well, no matter how far apart we are.
