Children’s & Youth Ministry Explained

The religious exploration program at UUFF exists to cultivate our children and youth’s capacity to love radically, wonder continually, and change the world with acts of bravery and compassion. We do this using the tools of our historic and progressive faith, Unitarian Universalism, and within the covenanted church community of UUFF.

As individuals our core values underlie everything we say and do, and how we behave. We believe values are taught and caught. That is why UU religious education for children is focused on teaching and establishing core values early on to build a solid foundation for future leaders.

Values taught by UU Religious Education for Children are inspired by our UU Principles:

  • The importance and uniqueness of each person and family
  • Fairness and kindness in all our interactions
  • Spiritual growth
  • Lifelong learning
  • Democracy and a voice for all people
  • A world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all
  • Respect and careful tending of our shared Earth home

Activities

Our Sunday morning program for children consists of the following activities:

  • Workshops
  • Stories
  • Discussions
  • Games
  • Arts and Crafts

Current Curriculum: Signs of Our Faith

Rev. Peter Morales asks us to think about religion as the practice of being faithful to what you love. In order to do this, you must decide what you love and do your best to live that love faithfully every day. Signs of Our Faith guides children to do their best to live faithful lives every day. It presents fourteen traits or values that most Unitarian Universalist love, including the quest for knowledge, reverence for life, supporting one another on our faith journeys, and public witness. Children examine how their lives do and can exhibit these traits and values, and come to understand that their faith is a living faith whose histories and teachings are fortifications for living faithfully in a complex world.

Church Youth Group: (6-8th grade)

UUFF is in exploration to form a new Youth Group (6-8th grade) who together regularly to support one another’s interests and accomplishments, learn and enforce the core values, and to just have a some fun. They would meet Sunday’s at 10am, plus other times as agreed.

Some of the things we would do in the Youth Group include attending theater performances – many times in which one of our children or youth is performing. We enjoy going on group hikes, and other fun outdoor activities. And we also like to host movie and pizza nights at the church.

These kind of activities depend on our members and friends caring for and participation to provide activities for our youth. Sign up to get to know our youth, and help them learn the UU values by your example! Sign up Here: I’ll Help RE!

On Social Media

We have a Facebook group! The UUFF Children’s Religious Exploration Families group is open to adult parents or caregivers of kids in CRE at the UUFF, as well as CRE teachers and other church leaders with ties to and love for CRE. As a closed, private group, it’s a place where we can build community for CRE, and have a chance to dialogue and discuss between Sundays, in an open and honest way.
