Childcare Assistant
JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Part-time, Permanent position (Hourly)
Goal: Assist the Childcare Coordinator to create a safe and engaging environment for children while their parents or guardians are participating in UUFF services, meetings, programs, or events.
Supervision: The Childcare Assistant is supervised by the Childcare Coordinator with consultation from the Operations Manager or by the chair of the personnel committee in absence of the Operations Manager.
Eligibility: The Childcare Assistant position is open to anyone who meets the following requirements:
- Is at least 14 years old and completes new hire paperwork.
- Has proof of completion of babysitting and first aid/CPR training from a credible source within 30 days of hire.
- The online Red Cross babysitting basics class https://www.redcross.org/take-a-class/classes/babysitting-basics-online/a6R0V0000015FUP.html will meet this requirement.
- The online Red Cross Child and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED class https://www.redcross.org/take-a-class/classes/child-and-baby-first-aid%2Fcpr%2Faed-online-ol/a6R3o000001vv2U.html will meet this requirement.
- UUFF will reimburse a teen for these online Red Cross trainings or other training of similar cost, if the teen makes a commitment to work 1-2 Sundays a month for at least one year.
- Provide two references, one of which may be from a parent (if under 18 years old).
- The Childcare Assistant position is not open to anyone who is currently a member.
Principle responsibilities and duties:
- Help provide childcare on Sunday morning during religious education and worship services on a regular basis and at other UUFF meetings, programs, or events when available.
- Abide by the UUFF Child Care Guidelines and Safe Congregation Policy which requires at least two caregivers for all events offering childcare. One caregiver must be over 21 years of age.
- Help maintain a neat, clean, and organized nursery/playroom.
- Arrive for scheduled work sessions on time, notify the Childcare Coordinator immediately if there are conflicts with the work schedule, absence due to illness, etc.
- Perform other job duties as directed by the Childcare Coordinator and/or Operations Manager.
Skills needed:
- Ability to help provide care for a mixed group of infants, toddlers and young children, creating boundaries that maintain safety and respect while promoting tolerance of diverse views.
- Ability to take direction, follow instructions and work well with the Nursery Coordinator.
- Flexibility to be available for occasional childcare duties at times other than Sunday morning.
- Ability to obtain/maintain current Red Cross Certification in CPR/First Aid and Babysitting Basics (provided by UUFF, if needed).
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
