August 29 – “The Forever War?”

August 24, 2021 by Fawn Smith

The “Forever War” is not about Afghanistan, but is instead about the seemingly perpetual “Good Fight” that everyone seems to be urged to continue. We are told to keep fighting the “Good Fight,” but to what end? Lately it seems that we are in many ways back to square one. Does this fight last forever? Does it ever end? Is it even possible for it to end? And what do we do if we realize that it doesn’t end? Our guest speaker, Doug Krueger, helps us contemplate these incredibly important questions.

August 22 – “It’s not about Us & Them: It’s about We”

August 17, 2021 by Fawn Smith

With guest service leader, Melanie DeMore. In these times of ‘hyper individualism’ (so particular in American culture) what is our loving responsibility to our community? How do our actions effect those around us? These days call for radical interdependence. I thrive when you thrive, just sayin’…

August 15 – “Connection in These Times”

August 11, 2021 by Fawn Smith

UUFF’s former Minister Intern, the now “Reverend” Ren Pasco is our guest speaker this Sunday! Join us as we consider the following questions: What does “connection” mean now? In this second wave of pandemic, how do we fulfill both our deep need for community and our need for safety? Reverend Ren Pasco served as UUFF’s Ministerial Intern from 2017-2019. She is now an ordained UU Minister and works as a Hospital Chaplain. Rev. Pasco is delighted to be joining us virtually from her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma!

July 25 – “The Friendship Factor”

July 21, 2021 by Fawn Smith

For most people, having a network of good friends is a vital part of a happy life. Yet, we struggle to maintain those friendships. The recent months of social isolation have made it even harder to stay connected. What can we do to create and cultivate lasting friendships? Join us this Sunday as Gene Vinzant shares his thoughts on “The Friendship Factor.”

July 11 – “Hopes and Progress”

July 7, 2021 by Fawn Smith

With speaker, Brooke Eldredge. It’s been a tough 4+ years, and the less-than-ideal state of America has left many longing for the days of old. But are things really worse than they used to be? Dr. Steven Pinker, a Harvard cognitive psychologist and author of “Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism and Progress,” claims that by almost every metric of human well-being, the world is getting better. Yet progress is seldom noticed, and we certainly don’t hear about it often in the news. Join us as we look at a brighter side of the current state of America.

July 4 – “Reframing the Fourth”

June 29, 2021 by Fawn Smith

With Rev. Dr. Steven Gaines. This Sunday is Independence Day, a day when many people celebrate freedom. Not all groups in this nation have experienced that freedom equally. You’re invited to join us as we consider how practices of dependence, grounded in our UU Principles, can contribute to freedom at social, congregational, and personal levels.

June 23, 2021 by Fawn Smith

Pi Luna art - Taking Back the Field

“Until Love Wins – Today’s challenging times require a nimble and resilient spirituality. We need a demanding, inspiring faith and a love strong enough that it will not let us go. Join us as we draw the circle wide, gather our strength, and promise to stay in the struggle and joy until love wins.” UUA General Assembly is happening this weekend, and that means that UU Churches from all over the world will join in a communal worship service experience this Sunday. It’s the largest annual gathering of UUs joining in worship. You can view the General Assembly service here.

June 20 – “Imagine a Ministry.”

June 16, 2021 by Fawn Smith

Liberal Religions chose to have ministers as servants of the faith and its people, instead of priests, who represent a hierarchical power. Think of what your ministry would be like, as I speak to a ministry I could not have imagined. Led by Rev. Jim Parrish.
