Religions tend to have problems with their histories, especially when the historians recount differences in lived experience (actualities) versus the tenets they espouse. UU’s have our problems with history as well… we kept getting recorded as heretics, boundary pushers, and anti-authoritarians, sometimes to our serious detriment. How will we fare in this “interesting time?”

Speaker, Rev. Jim Parrish, served as minister of UUFF from 2014 until his retirement in 2021. He and his spouse Theresa love Fayetteville so much that they made it their home after retiring, and they continue to participate in the interesting fabric of northwest Arkansas’s political, ecological, and social justice life. Rev. Jim is pleased to share a service with fellow UUs at UUFF.

UUFF is cancelling all services/events for this Sunday, January 25th, 2026, due to imminent dangerous winter weather. The service “Optimism: Worth It?” and choir performance that was planned for this Sunday will be postponed until later in February. Please stay home, stay safe, and we will get together soon.

We started off the year talking about the need to slow down. How do we do that in a social structure that insists our worth is based on our work? In a culture that says our value depends on our productivity? This is an insidious concept that is prevalent today and throughout the history of western civilization. So, what do we do about it?
