2026 Sermons

The fifth principle of Unitarian Universalism affirms “the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large.” As an expression of this faith, many Unitarian Universalists (UUs) believe strongly in expanding voting access and participation. Members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fayetteville (UUFF) actively support these efforts in numerous ways and at all levels of government. We also engage with and lift up organizations that share our commitment to democracy. 

One such organization is the League of Women Voters. Our guest speaker this Sunday, Michelle Wolchok, President of the League of Women Voters of Washington County, will discuss the League’s history and long-standing work, its current priorities, the status of citizen-led ballot initiatives in Arkansas, and the importance of voting in the upcoming midterm elections. Additionally, the Raging Grannies NWA will provide uplifting and thought-provoking music for the service.

This year marks 46 years of Water Communion and 75 years of UUFF! Rev. Come learn how our fellowship is adapting to give our rising generation the deep roots and strong support that they need to thrive.

This Sunday, we will Share the Plate with Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families. For 45 years, AACF has provided leadership, research, and advocacy to promote wide-ranging reforms that have improved the lives of Arkansas children. 100% of loose collection plate cash will be donated to this worthy organization. Folks in the Ozark Mountains have long had a deep relationship with the landscape. What started as a need for survival has evolved into an almost spiritual connection to living with the land and protecting its inhabitants. Join Ozark folklorist and author Brandon Weston in an exploration of Ozark traditions and folklore that point toward this green spirituality and look at what we as modern folk can learn from these old ways.

Join Rev. Renée this Sunday for a “super cool” virtual service!

Folks, despite our best efforts, UUFF’s Sanctuary AC units are still not working, and the weather tomorrow is simply too hot for us to be able to safely conduct in-person services at the fellowship building.

That being said, we are offering two options to join this Sunday’s 11am Service remotely online!

(1) The 11am Service will be held over Zoom, and those who desire a more participatory remote attendance experience are welcome to join that way. Use the link below, and allow it to take you to the Zoom meeting page. You will automatically be placed in a waiting room, and one of our lovely hosts will let you in when the service begins! Please remember to remain muted throughout the service and to enable the “chat” option once you are in the meeting if you plan to share a joy, concern, or milestone at the appointed time during the service.

Transformation is often associated with life’s biggest moments—a new job, a move, or a major milestone. But what if transformation is quieter than that? What if it begins with curiosity instead of certainty, with listening instead of assuming, and with the courage to remain open to what life still has to teach us? Join us as we explore the Unitarian Universalist value of Transformation through three reflective questions that invite us to consider not only what we’ve learned, but who we are still becoming.

Join us this Sunday as speaker Jacob Hook leads us in an exploration of tenacity and the important role it can play in our lives.

This Sunday, we will Share the Plate with May Day NWA, a local grassroots non-profit organization that cooks and distributes free hot, nutritious meals to the struggling working class and underserved populations in our community. 50% of all loose collection plate cash and specially-designated cash/checks (please write out to UUFF and put “share plate” on memo line) will be donated to this wonderful organization.

It feels like division is at an all-time high while empathy and communication are at an all-time low. Our own Dane Wagner will talk about some of the unhelpful behaviors (in ourselves and others) that create and reinforce barriers and how to instead establish trust and communication through respect and compassion.
