September 20 – We Are What We Love: Serving Others and Ourselves When Times Are Hard.

“We Are What We Love: Serving Others and Ourselves When Times Are Hard.” With reflections from Board members: Burnetta Hinterthuer, Elizabeth Hancock, and Leanda Gavin. Participants are encouraged to stay after service to share favorite thing(s) about UUFF and visions for the future. Question to ponder: How can we be our best UU selves even in the midst of uncertainty?

September 13 – “Water In-Gathering and Day of Hope.”

It is time to kick off our “church year” with our seasonal Water In-Gathering! This year, let’s do something a little different. We’ll call it a ‘Waterfall of Hope.”

As usual, all are invited to have a bit of water from a special place (and a place to safely pour it when the time comes), but this year, as you pour your water, you are ALSO invited to allot $20 of “Hope” from the UUFF Giving Fund to a specific LOCAL charity/organization of your choice (let’s give to those that help people, nature, environment…and leave politics out of it for this Sunday). For your convenience, you can click HERE to view a list of some local charity organizations to research and consider. We’ll do this up to $1000. A few of us will be present in the UUFF Sanctuary to pour a bit of water (on your behalf) into our UUFF Fountain and write down the requests so that we can fulfill the giving of Hope.

When all who wish to give water, and/or Hopes have spoken, we will close the ritual by starting our fountain and enjoying a bit of music! A Sunday of Hope, for each other in Fellowship, and the broader community as well.

September 6 – “Moving Forward Together.”

Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan has a long history of promoting progressive issues and championing diversity and inclusiveness. This Sunday he will speak at UUFF on his personal values that tell him how to approach issues like the pandemic, social justice, and sustainability for himself, and his community.

August 2 – “What Does Social Justice Look Like to a UU Native American?”

Speaker, Rev. Gary McAlpin will lead us through an exploration of this question.

Rev. McAlpin is a UUA Community Minister serving the people of Cherokee County, the heart of the Cherokee Nation. He works to help provide outreach and aid and to support community and families affected by pediatric cancer and environmental climate injustice. His non-profit organization is called “Sweetwater Foundation.” To find out more, check out their facebook page!

July 19 – “Sneaking Out: My Path from Fundamentalist Christianity to Unitarian Universalism,” with Guest Speaker, Rev. Dr. Steven Gaines.

Rev. Dr. Steven Gaines is a minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a Communications Professor at Midland College in Texas, a member of PFLAG at both national and local levels, and a former member of the SURJ Memphis Core Leadership Team. Steven enjoys cooking, hiking, and learning and writing about religion/spirituality, race, gender, and communication.

July 12 – “What Our Children Teach Us.”

We “Share the Plate” this week with NWA Center for Sexual Assault. This valuable community organization works to provide a safe haven of healing and hope to those affected by sexual violence and strives to enable a safer future for all through education and awareness by offering free, comprehensive support to survivors of sexual assault while actively addressing the individual and community hurt caused by those who perpetrate. July 5 – “Doorways of Change,” with speaker, Bettina Lehovec.

The twin pandemics of COVID-19 and continued Racial Injustice have blown open a door into a new reality. Can we commit to stepping through that door? What do we want to create on the other side, and how hard are we willing to work to grow that vision to fruition? Join us for an exploration of the challenges facing UU’s and the world.

Note: This is Bettina’s last Sunday with us before she heads to Maine. Please join us for this important service and to wish Bettina well on her continued journey!
