July 21 – “The Space Between the Notes”

July 17, 2024 by Fawn Smith

“You may delay, but time will not,” said Benjamin Franklin. His wise words remind us that life is a priceless gift, and our time on this earth is limited. There are always some things in life over which we have no control. They will happen and they will demand our attention and our time whether we want or not. But what about the rest of the time, the “space in between?” UUFF Member, Rev. John Johnson, will lead us in an exploration of this important topic this Sunday. Join us!

You can attend service in person at the fellowship building or view it remotely online via Facebook Live Stream. To attend via Facebook, click on: https://fb.me/e/74EC5PnBF at exactly 11am Central Standard Time (CST), and then click on “Watch Live Video. You don’t need a Facebook account to access.

July 7 – “Happy Fourth of July: Being Peace in Our New Christian Nationalist America.”

July 3, 2024 by Fawn Smith

The current rise of American Christian Nationalism has been of scary proportions lately. Their fear-driven agendas and ideologies threaten our very democracy today. In our UU tradition, we have a rich history of standing up for the rights of those with little voice. Instead of fighting against these powers of rhetoric and hatred, we stand firm in our commitment to be the voice of prophecy and peace. How can we as a community grow and be of an impact to counteract the destructive influence against our communities? This Sunday, Guest Speaker Rev. Gary McAlpin leads us in an exploration of our faith and our commitment to siding with love and spreading peace.

About Rev. McAlpin: Reverend Gary McAlpin works full time for Cherokee Nation Talking Leaves Job Corps as a Counselor. Gary is also an ordained UUA Community Minister based at Hope Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Gary and his family live in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. They have a combined total of nine children. Gary’s wife is a Social Worker for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. They are very active in Gary’s Cherokee ceremonial grounds and in Cherokee language and culture revitalization.
