This Sunday, 06/19/2022: “Pride Month: Understanding Recent Anti-LGBTQ Legislation.” According to NBC News, nearly 670 anti-LGBTQ bills have been filed in states across the US since 2018. The slate of legislation includes measures that would restrict LGBTQ issues in school curriculums, permit religious exemptions to discriminate against LGBTQ people, and limit trans people’s ability to play sports, use bathrooms that correspond with their gender identity and receive gender-affirming health care. At the same time, support for LGBTQ rights and policies prohibiting discrimination against LGBTQ people has increased according to public surveys. This week we’ll examine the legislative trends and discuss the disconnect between public opinion and these anti-LGBTQ bills. We hope you’ll join us.
Note: We originally planned to address the evolving terminology around gender and sexuality and asked Rev. Steven to present on this topic. Due to scheduling issues, we have decided to postpone this topic to a later date. Stay tuned!
