All are invited to gather downstairs in the common area of the fellowship building on Sundays at 10am for a facilitated discussion focused on a specific topic (advertised in the eNews the week before).
Topic this Sunday: “The Environmental Impacts of Consumerism.” This week we will discuss the documentary Buy Now: The Shopping Conspiracy which raises awareness of not only the environmental impact of excess shopping, but also the levels of manipulation going on behind the scenes that companies use to keep us hooked on wanting (and needing) more. One-click buying takes away time for critical thinking while reducing the lifespan of products makes it near impossible to fix purchases rather than replace them. Then there’s “greenwashing” that convinces us that companies are being environmentally responsible, rather than dumping and destroying great quantities of surplus products and turning a blind eye to hazardous waste. The documentary is available on Netflix. Please join us to learn more and discuss this sobering issue.
