Topic this Sunday: “Being “Woke”: What does it mean and why all the fuss?”
Merriam Webster defines woke as being “aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice).” According to the Washington Post, “Much like the “cancel” of “cancel culture,” “woke” is another word that originated in Black culture before being co-opted by White people.” There has been a lot of talk about “woke culture” and “wokeness” over the past few years yet many people wonder what it actually means and why it has triggered such a significant response, especially on the political right. We hope you’ll join us as we explore this timely topic.
