Sunday Adult Religious Education Discussion Group – via Zoom

This Sunday, 04/03/2022: “About Banned Books.” This week we will look at the reasons behind book bans, who brings these challenges and for what reasons. Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan, Jr., in Texas v. Johnson, said most eloquently: “If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that the government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable. Do you agree with Brennan? Are there instances when you think limiting access to certain books is appropriate? Join us.

The ARE discussion is held weekly before Sunday service. It is a facilitated conversation where lively conversation and sharing of personal experience is encouraged. Each week the topic changes and is advertised in our weekly email to congregants.

There is no need to sign up, just join the ARE Discussion Group Zoom Room at 10am each Sunday morning. Now that we are open for in-person attendance of the 11am Sunday service, those who wish to participate in the ARE Discussion Group AND attend the 11am service at UUFF are invited to come to UUFF at 10am and gather in the common room downstairs. Someone will need to be prepared to use their personal electronic device to connect to the ARE zoom.
