UUFF Cares!

Jack Groh fell recently and broke his femur. He is home from the hospital and rehabilitation but has a very long recovery ahead of him, as they opted to try and let the bone knit itself together rather than risk surgery. Jack is progressing, but wife Jan Groh is the primary caregiver and is very busy with medical needs. The Groh’s are beloved long-time members of UUFF, and they can use our help! I have set up a mealtrain, which you can access via the following link: https://mealtrain.com/2lz928  Jan requested food only every few days, as there are just 2 of them, but it would mean a lot to them and help Jan be able to better concentrate on caring for Jack medically and caring for herself. Thanks, and please keep the Groh’s in your thoughts and hearts!

Stewardship Work Day scheduled for Saturday, August 26th from 9am-NOON!

There is always work to be done to maintain our grounds and keep them looking fine! Summer is a big season for that, so please join for an hour, 2, or all 3 if you can!

Here are some specific projects we hope to get done:

  • Level picnic table under cedar tree
  • Weed liriope and sumac areas on north side
  • Weed south bank of creek
  • Weed east of office window
  • Mulch blueberry grove
  • Weed in Storla Memorial Garden

The Blessing of the Animals Service will be going on in the Sanctuary beginning at 11am, but that need not stop the work day! John King can be contacted with any questions at jwking@uark.edu THANKS! And please go ahead and mark your calendar for the next planned Work Day on September 23rd!

Bring your animal companion for a short, family-friendly, totally casual “Blessing of the Animals” service on Saturday, August 26th, beginning at 11am. If you’d like to help with the service readings or blessing the animals, please email Rev. Jim ASAP at rev.jimparrish@gmail.com

If you cannot bring your animal friend with you, please bring a photo or some other meaningful item related to your animal friend, such as a collar, toy or leash. We will also be honoring animal companions who have passed on.

Dogs must be on a leash. Cats and other small animals must be crated or similarly contained. All animals (including the 2-legged) must be kept under the owner’s control at all times.

At this special ceremony, we take time to give thanks for and bless our companions in life—cats and dogs, birds and chickens, turtles and fish and so much more! This ceremony also acknowledges that our lives are made fuller and richer by the creatures that inhabit the Earth with us, not just those that live with us.

Animal blessings originate out of the Catholic tradition; however, many Unitarian Universalist congregations have adopted this practice and have made it a uniquely UU type of blessing based on our seventh principle which states that we are all a part of an interconnected web of existence.

Saturday, September 9th is our next trail maintenance morning on the Razorback Greenway Trail. This clean-up is long overdue, as many have been busy with summer travels and such! We will meet at 8:15am in the UUFF parking lot and finish by noon.  Wear walking shoes and gloves.  All other equipment will be supplied. Please join us for some fresh air, good fellowship and environmental stewardship.  We always have a great time.  The more the merrier.

Questions should be directed to Mike McMullin at mocmyc@msn.com or 507-421-7014.

UUFF is trying to hire additional paid Nursery Assistants and is very much in need of Nursery Volunteers in the meantime, so if you or anyone you know is interested in either of these opportunities, please see Fawn in the office or follow the link below to see job description and fill out an application! Nursery Assistant is a paid position, and training is provided. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Byoc_P163LILRzhJV1pBR1ViLVk/view?usp=sharing

Thank you to the individuals and families who braved the torrential rain to have professional photos taken for the updated UUFF directory.  Having a picture directory is an important way for us to better get to know each other and strengthen our community ties.  We are aware that circumstances made it prohibitive for some to participate, and we are hoping to bring the photographers back for another sitting. They will only come if we can guarantee a minimum number to sit for their portraits.  Please consider the fact there is absolutely no cost or obligation to either you or UUFF to have your LifeTouch picture included in the directory, and there is a limit to how many non-LifeTouch (aka-personally provided) photos we can include without incurring a cost to the Fellowship.

Please let us know if you are willing and able to come here in near future for your free professional LifeTouch photo sitting. Please enter your name and email address on the RSVP spreadsheet to be accessed via this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-Ka5L6sYnqLmXQQ9wtTgrKYi-sDpz9Jzgh4C5ol8xG8/edit?usp=sharing or let Fawn know at uuff.ar@gmail.com WE HAVE NEARLY ENOUGH FOLKS SIGNED UP- JUST NEED A FEW MORE!

UUFF will soon welcome our new Intern, Ren Pasco! For more details, check out: http://www.uufayetteville.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/UUFFInternIntroduction.pdf

Volunteer Opportunities!

Provide flowers for UUFF Sanctuary on Sundays (this Sunday, 8/20) is available. Please let Fawn know if you’d like to sign up or just go ahead and bring flowers.

Sign-up sheet in the lobby with Sunday dates listed. All you need to do is put your name and contact info by chosen date, and be sure to let us know if the flowers you plan to provide are in honor of some special occasion or person or just because. If you know you want to provide flowers on a specific future Sunday but can’t make it to the fellowship to sign up, please email uuff.ar@gmail.com, and we’ll be more than happy to put you on the list. An email reminder will be sent during the week before “your Sunday.” Note also that we have PLENTY of vases here for use, so that’s one less thing to worry about.

Greeter/Usher and Coffee Hour Sign-Ups-IN NEED OF COFFEE HOUR HOSTS FOR THIS SUNDAY, 8/20!

What does it mean to be a welcoming community? One thing is to greet those who come on Sunday morning with a warm smile, a hardy handshake and a friendly reminder to wear their nametag….

We would like to have three greeters/ushers each Sunday. One to be aware of visitors, another to be sure everyone gets an order of service, and a third for backup and to direct folks to the Sanctuary, RE or restrooms.

It takes a village to make warmth and welcoming a reality every Sunday morning and YOU CAN HELP! Below is a link to the Greeter/Usher Volunteer sign-up sheet. Please take a moment to put your name down for one or two Sundays.

Coffee Hour Hosting is another very important opportunity to serve. You can sign up as a volunteer to host via this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17bmSY2FfoZjyubPnjYfNuzVd9QG-XRAvm0zUqKNPNMc/edit?usp=sharing

You will receive an email reminder a few days before your shift with a list of greeter/usher or coffee hour host duties to help orient you. Most Sundays will have a lead greeter/usher from the Membership Committee to help make this important task fun and anxiety-free!
